Technology Programs

Civil Engineering Technology 


There are three possible Associates Degrees at Lake Land College:

  1. Civil Engineering Technology (AAS.CET) - which is the standard program you would want to take if you want the Associates Degree from Lake Land.
  2. Civil Engineering Technology Cooperative Study Option (AAS.CETCO) - which is exactly like the standard program, but you also have 15 months of an internship in between freshman and sophomore year. The 15 month internship starts right after the freshman school year is over in May to August the following year. Then you would start the sophomore school year. I will take three years to finish this program at Lake Land.
  3. Civil Engineering Technology / Advanced Technical Studies (AAS.CETAT) - which is the more advanced program that transfers to Southern Illinois University in Carbondale or Eastern Illinois University. This program is very similar to the other two programs except it has more advanced classes such as calculus and physics.

This program will be perfect for a student who wants both inside and outside work. They must like math and be a good problem solver. This program offers a variety of skills such as: 
  • Drafting -  which you will learn a wide range drafting from how to draft plans to MicroStationing on the computer to CAD on the computer as well.
  • Surveying - which you will learn the basics such as steel  to using a GPS on the surrounding Bench Marks.
  • Materials Testing - which you will learn how to analyze soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt.

Examples of jobs you could have after an Associates Degree in CET:
  1. Construction Inspector
  2. Materials Tester
  3. Drafts Person
  4. Project Manager - you would need some experience first
  5. Surveyor - you would need a Bachelors to be a Registered Land Surveyor


Renewable Energy


There is one Associates Degree and three possible Certificates at Lake Land College:


  1. Renewable Energy (AAS.RNRG) - which is the Associates Degree that gives you complete knowledge about renewable energy. This Associates Degree is also transferable to Eastern Illinois University and Illinois State University.
  2. Renewable Energy (CRT.RENEW) - which is a Certificate Degree that has to do with installing & repairing. These technicians work on wind towers and solar panels.
  3. Renewable Energy Management (CRT.REMG) - which is a Certificate Degree that is more on the business & management side. This certificate deals with sales and the business end jobs such as sales representative and energy marketing. 
  4. Sustainable Energy (NDP.SNRG) - which is a Certificate Degree that gives small knowledge of renewable energy. This certificate is only two classes that will give you a basic understanding of various types of renewable energy systems.

This program will be perfect for a wide range of student who wants to work with his or her hands and athletic. This person will also have indoors and outdoors work. This program offers a variety of skills such as:
  • Solar Hot Water
  • Photo-Voltaic
  • Wind Power
  • Geothermal
  • Hydroelectric
  • Bio-Fuels
  • Battery Technology

Examples of jobs you could have after this Associates Degree or one of these Certificate Degrees in RNRG:
  1. Tower Technician - Wind and Communication
  2. Bio-Diesel Technician or Bio-Fuel Technician
  3. Sales or System Designer - Renewable Energy
  4. Site Surveys - you will not be a Registered Land Surveyor
  5. Project Manager or Site Supervisor - you will need some experience first
